BEDFORD — The school district is going green with a new online student registration and data validation system.
Parents registering their child will no longer have piles of paperwork to complete on the first day of school.
“We’ve heard from parents that they have to fill out a myriad of paperwork, and our secretaries have to take that information and update it into our system,” said Superintendent Tim Mayes. “It’s also easier for parents with multiple kids in the district.”
The new online registration system was activated on Aug. 7 for the 2013-14 school year. The secure online system is powered by infosnap, Mayes said, and replaces all hard-copy registration and permission forms students used to bring home on their first day of school.
The online registration system will be used to verify students’ demographic, emergency and medical information, and can easily be updated by parents.
“They can verify the information and update it. If they changed their physician, they had to fill out forms, but now it’s all done online,” Mayes said. “It’s less work for parents and less work for our secretaries. It’s a friendlier way to update information.”
Parents and guardians can electronically sign permission forms for school district policies such as technology use, school handbooks and the PowerSchool parent portal.
“Our new technology director, Terry Bullard, and others have spent countless hours making sure it’s working smoothly,” Mayes said, adding Bullard recently took over the position from Karl Haven, who retired.
Parents/guardians will be notified via an infosnap email with instructions on how to access the registration system for their child. The email notification will include a link that contains a secure snapcode, which links directly to their child’s information. Parents and guardians will be required to create an account. A form must be submitted for each child in a family.
Once parents have successfully submitted one registration, they will have the opportunity to start another from the confirmation page. They will also have the option to copy family information and emergency contacts to other students in the family.
If parents have changed their email addresses since this past school year or have not yet been notified, Mayes said they should contact their school’s office.
If parents do not have Internet access, they may make an appointment to use a school computer to complete the process.
Students’ registration will not be complete until online forms are submitted.
“We would appreciate all families to take action and complete the online registration as soon as possible after receiving the email,” he said.
