Hooksett trio heads to World Series
Three boys from Hooksett will attend the 14U Babe Ruth World Series with the Manchester team.
Manchester won the New England Regional tournament in Westford, Mass., earning them a berth in the 14U Babe Ruth World Series in Moses Lake, Wash., from Aug. 17 to 24.
Nick Salcito, Joey Davis and Kyle Jutras, along with the rest of the team, will make the the 5,000-mile roundtrip, flying out of Boston to Seattle, Wash., then taking a bus to Moses Lake.
“We’re all really excited,” said Jutras about making it to the World Series. “We hope to win a few games out there, get the job done.”
Salcito added that he thinks they have a good chance if they play as a team.
Hooksett has not had a Babe Ruth team for more than a decade, so players from the town are allowed to play in Manchester. All three boys played with Hooksett Little League.
While the national Babe Ruth organization picks up some of the travel and lodging expenses for teams, most still hold fundraisers. Hooksett Little League recently voted to make a $1,000 donation.
Rich Salcito, Nick's dad, said he and his wife wouldn't miss this opportunity for anything.
“We’re putting it on the credit card,” said Salcito. “Buy it now, worry about it later.”
The team departs for Moses Lake next week and begins play on Aug. 17.
