Judge: Belmont murder charges are warranted
LACONIA — A district court judge has found that police had enough evidence to bring second-degree murder charges against a Belmont man accused of killing his brother and mother.
Shawn Carter, 31, is being held at Belknap County Jail without bail, charged with the May murder of Priscilla Carter, 59, and Timothy Carter, 39. His bail status remained the same after the probable cause hearing on Tuesday in Laconia District Court.
The case is now bound over to the Belknap County Superior Court for indictment.
The bodies of Priscilla and Timothy were discovered May 24 in the home the family had just rented at 20 Sunset Drive in Belmont.
Carter is accused of delivering "multiple chop wounds" to the heads and torsos of both victims.
Carter was arrested almost immediately after the discovery of the bodies. He was held in the Belknap County Jail for nearly two months on a traffic violation.
In July, authorities brought the murder charges.
