PETERBOROUGH— A Peterborough Fire & Ambulance paramedic was arrested Saturday for possession and theft of narcotics.

Jeremy Bouchard, 34, of Antrim was arrested by the Peterborough police.

"Police allege that on numerous occassions between August 2012 and August 2013, Bouchard took Fentanyl and morphine that was documented as resupplies for Peterborough's ambulances," police said in a news release.

Because the investigation is ongoing, Police Chief Scott Guinard would not say Wednesday when, how or by whom the theft was discovered. He also would not say if the theft took place at the hospital or in a Peterborough ambulance.

"Hospital drugs are stored on the ambulance; specifically where they were stolen from is a question I cannot answer at this time," Guinard said.

The drugs were the property of the Peterborough's Monadnock Community Hospital. At the time of the thefts, Bouchard was working as an ambulance medic for Peterborough, he said.

Bouchard was booked and released on $50,000 personal recognizance bail.

He is scheduled to appear in the 8th Circuit Court in Jaffrey court Aug. 12 for an arraignment hearing.

The case remains under investigation by the Peterborough Police Department, New Hampshire Attorney General's Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Guinard said Bouchard has since been removed from his position with the Peterborough Fire & Ambulance Department.

Fire Chief Joe Lenox did not respond to an email and voice messages Wednesday.

Peterborough Town Administrator Pam Brenner would not comment on Bouchard's personnel record with the department, but said he has been put on leave.

"He is on administrative leave at this moment," she said.

Bouchard was hired by the town as a per diem paramedic in 2009 and was appointed a full-time employee of the department in Nov. 2011.
