Walmart wants to add a supermarket to its store in Rindge
Walmart has been tweaking its application for the expansion for the past two years.
The expansion and preliminary designs were first proposed to the planning board in 2011. At that time, the board denied a waiver because no plan for the septic system was submitted.
The proposed expansion would add 43,000 square feet to the existing 76,148-square-foot Walmart that sits on 17 acres on Route 202.
The town, located on the Massachusetts border, already has Market Basket and Hannaford supermarkets on Route 202.
“I think anytime there are more choices for the consumer it can beneficial for the consumer in terms of pricing and selection,” Pini said.
