Fishers fall short at Bowie

Jack Murphy had three hits, including a home run, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell short in their series finale in Bowie, Md., on Thursday afternoon, losing 4-3.

Andy Burns added a two-run home run, his second in as many games, as the Fisher Cats (53-56) dropped two of three in Bowie to open their six-game road trip.

Bowie pulled ahead in the seventh inning against Ryan Tepera (8-8). The inning began with a walk before Niuman Romero stroked a double into the right field corner to put Bowie on top, 4-3.

New Hampshire had one more rally attempt before the game ended. With two outs in the ninth, Murphy singled through the middle for his second three-hit game of the season. Kenny Wilson followed with a bloop to right field to advance Murphy to third. But with two outs, Burns flied to center to end the game.

The Baysox broke a scoreless tie in the second inning against Sean Nolin, plating three runs. Brandon Waring began the frame with his 17th home run. Run-scoring singles by Garabez Rosa and Kyle Hudson followed before Nolin ended the inning on back-to-back strikeouts with the bases loaded.

The Fisher Cats now head further south to begin a three-game series in Richmond tonight at 7:05. Right-hander Kyle Drabek will make his first start since joining the Fisher Cats on his road back from Tommy John surgery. He'll be opposed by Richmond righty Craig Westcott (4-10, 4.28).

The Fishers are home Tuesday to begin a six-game homestand against Bowie and Richmond.

Christie is the real deal

We have found Gov. Chris Christie to be the most consistent, the most confident in his abilities, the most tested under fire, and the most likely to regain the White House from a disastrous Democratic regime.
