Barrett fires 65 to take NHGA Stroke Play lead

Chelso Barrett of Bretwood Golf Club fired a seven-under-par 65 round to take a one-stroke lead into today's final rounds of the 54-hole New Hampshire Golf Association's Stroke Play Championship at Green Meadow Golf Club in Hudson's Jungle Course.

A total of 41 players made the cut. Players will play 36 holes today.

Barrett, coming off a two-over 74 round on Tuesday, scorched the front nine yesterday, for a five-under 31 score at the turn. He made birdie on the first two holes and eagled the par 5, third hole. His other birdie on the front side came on hole six.

Barrett went on to birdie holes 10, 16 and 18, closing his day with a 31-34-65 round. After making five bogeys in round one, he only had one on hole 17 yesterday.

Overall in two days, he has converted an eagle, 11 birdies and 17 pars. Barrett is five-under overall in the tournament.

Just one stroke behind Barrett is Damon Salo (71-69-140) of The Shattuck Golf Club. Third place belongs to Bedford's Jake Nutter (72-69-141) of Manchester CC and in fourth place is Connor Greenleaf (74-68-142) of Windham CC.

Salo was even at the turn before making birdie on holes 10, 12 and 18 to finish three-under for the day and four-under for the tournament.

Nutter started out shaky on the front side, making bogey on hole four and double bogey on hole five. He did birdie three holes to make the turn even and proceeded to birdie three more holes to finish his round three-under.

Greenleaf nearly matched Barrett's hot start with four birdies on the front side for a 32 score, but cooled off a bit over the final nine holes. He bogeyed holes 11 and 17 and birdied holes 13 and 15.

First round leader Joe Toland of Hanover CC (69-74-143) slipped into a three way tie for fifth place with Josh Chamberlain (71-72-143) of Crotched Mountain Golf Club and defending champion Ryan Kohler (72-71-143) of Hooper Golf Club.

Rounding out the top 10 are Tyler Silver (72-72-144) of Hanover CC, Griffin Brown of Overlook (73-72-145) and Jeff Sullivan of Sky Meadow (72-74-146).
