Fisher Cats end skid at Bowie

Andy Burns collected three hits, including a solo homer, as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 6-2 Eastern League victory against the Bowie Baysox Wednesday at Prince George’s Stadium.

New Hampshire grabbed a 1-0 first inning lead when Kenny Wilson scored from third base on a groundout to second by Brad Glenn.

Bowie took a 2-1 lead in the home second when Seth Loman reached New Hampshire starter and winning pitcher Marcus Stroman for a two-run homer to right field.

Burns tied the game in the third inning with his third homer of the season and New Hampshire took the lead for good in the fourth inning with three runs.

Nashua native Kevin Nolan opened the frame with a single and scored on a one-out double to Gabe Jacobo.

A throwing error by Jake Pettit on a pickoff attempt advanced Jacobo to third base and he scored on a single by Tommy Manzella.

Burns drove in the final run of the inning with a double to left, his 13th of the seasob.

The Fisher Cats padded their lead to 6-2 in the sixth inning. Jacobo singled, Manzella reached on a fielding error and Jacobo, who went to third base on the error, scored when Wilson bounced into a double play.

Stroman (6-2) struck out 13 batters in his 6 2/3-inning outing. He allowed four hits and walked two. He threw 105 pitches, 66 for strikes.

The Fisher Cats (53-55) return to action today at 11 a.m. to close out the series against Bowie. They remain on the road for a weekend series against Richmond and return home to face Bowie again next Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
