Fugitive of Week from April captured in New Durham

Daniel Arthur "Danny" Demeritt, 35, wanted by the U.S. Marshal's Service as a Fugitive of the Week in April for parole violations stemming from an armed-robbery conviction, was arrested Monday night in Durham, where he was spotted driving a van.

Demeritt was wanted by the N.H. Parole Board for parole violations stemming from an armed-robbery conviction.

Information provided by tipsters and obtained by investigators with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force resulted in his arrest.

Investigators said at the time of his arrest, Demeritt was a habitual offender, in possession of hypodermic needles and controlled drugs. He will be charged with those offenses in addition to the parole violations, according to the U.S. Marshals.

Assisting task force members in the arrest were officers from N.H. Probation & Parole, Strafford, Belknap and Hillsborough county sheriff's offices, deputy U.S. marshals and New Durham police.

Demeritt was processed and detained at the Strafford County jail in Dover, prior to being transferred to the N.H. State Prison for Men in Concord.
