CONCORD – A city man is under arrest after police say he shot several rounds into a car after arguing with a woman on Hall Street Tuesday morning.
Michael W. Eldridge, 44, of North State Street, was arrested shortly after 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at Concord Hospital. Lt. Timothy O'Malley would not comment on why Eldridge went to the medical facility.
A woman, who police did not identify, told investigators Eldridge arrived unannounced at her home just after 1:30 a.m. and woke her by “pounding” on her door.
She said Eldridge was an acquaintance of hers who she was helping through a “rough time.”
The woman went outside and asked Eldridge to leave. She said as they talked (police did not disclose what their conversation concerned) Eldridge kept both hands behind his back, which she told investigators made her suspect he had a gun.
She asked Eldridge to show his hands, which he did but only one at a time.
Uncomfortable, she turned to go back into her home. Eldridge, police said, then pulled out a gun and asked, “Is this what you're looking for?”
Seeing the gun, she immediately went inside. Then she heard gunshots.
Witnesses reported a man “emptied the gun” and they heard at least six shots, police said.
A rear passenger window on a car, which belongs to a man staying at the same Hall Street residence as the woman, was “shot out” and several bullets struck the windshield.
Lt. Timothy O'Malley would not release the address where the incident took place or the names of the woman or the man whose car was damaged.
Police arrested Eldridge at the hospital on charges of reckless conduct, criminal mischief, criminal trespass and possession of a controlled drug, marijuana. He was taken to the police station where he was processed and, when he refused bail, transported to the Merrimack County jail in Boscawen.
Police said a bag of marijuana was found on him at the jail.
What's next: Eldridge is to be arraigned Tuesday morning in 6th Circuit Court, Concord District Division.
