Boat crashes into tree after three people fall overboard on Little Squam Lake
HOLDERNESS -- A boat making a sharp turn took on water, shifted abruptly -- dumping the three people on board into the water -- and then continued unmanned until it crashed into a tree on the shore of Little Squam Lake on Monday.
The New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol said the boat was towing two people on a tube when the driver and two passengers were ejected and landed in the water around 12:30 p.m. The two people being towed abandoned the tube as the runaway boat headed toward shore. Both were wearing life jackets.
State police say the driver and two passengers were not wearing life jackets, but were rescued by a neighbor in another boat as they swam toward shore.
The Marine Patrol said in a release that it recommends wearing life jackets and using a safety lanyard when operating a power boat.
