Middleton man charged in baseball bat assault
A Middleton man was arrested early Sunday, charged in an alleged assault involving a baseball bat.
On Saturday at 7:12 p.m. members of the Middleton and Milton police departments responded to the area of 702 Route 153 for a reported assault. Police observed an assault in progress. The parties were separated, medical attention was provided and an investigation ensued.
As a result of injuries sustained in an assault, a 50-year-old neighbor was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital where he was admitted overnight with serious injuries. According to police, the victim was released from the hospital.
As a result of an investigation, Middleton police applied for and were granted an arrest warrant charging John H Roche III, 51, of 702 Route 153, Middleton, with second degree assault for knowingly engaging in the strangulation of another and criminal threatening with a deadly weapon by physical conduct, alleging he placed the victim in fear of imminent bodily injury by holding a cinder block above his head and stating that he was going to kill him.
Roche was arrested without incident Sunday at 2:20 a.m.
Roche was transported to the Strafford County Jail in Dover, New Hampshire for processing. Bail was set at $50,000 cash bail. Mr. Roche will be arraigned in the 7th Circuit Court, Rochester Monday at 11 a.m.
