Man, 21, airlifted to Boston after diving accident in Brookline


BROOKLINE — A 21-year-old man was airlifted to Boston after a diving accident on Melendy Pond Saturday evening.

Brookline Fire Chief Charles Corey said the incident was reported shortly after 6 p.m. He said the initial report was of a man in the water with a possible neck injury.

The man was rescued from the water in the area of 7th Street and taken by ambulance to a ballfield near the town center, where a medical helicopter was waiting to take him to a Boston hospital.

No further details were immediately available.
