Far from the bucolic running river scene, Hydro-Quebec dams pristine northern rivers to create massive reservoirs, flooding 7 million acres so far. Yes, 7 million acres of boreal forest. That's bigger than the whole state of New Hampshire. Northern Pass claims that the greenhouse gases saved by its project are the equivalent of 4 million acres of carbon-capturing trees.
