Swanson lifts Hanagan 14's in opener

Manchester’s Hanagan All-Stars opened pool play of the Babe Ruth League Baseball 14-year-olds New England Regional with a 9-3 win over Pittsfield, Mass., on Friday at Westfield, Mass.

Manchester will continue pool play today at 10 a.m. when it faces Norwood, Mass.

Pat Swanson threw a complete game for the Hanagans, allowing three hits, issuing four walks and striking out one.

Garrett Olivar went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI to lead the Manchester offense. Teammates Johnny Robinson (RBI, 2 runs), Joey Silva (2 hits, RBI), Nate Hall (2 hits, RBI) and Matt Reynolds (3 walks, 2 runs) chipped in.

Manchester played error-free defense, and left fielder Drew Merrick made a key play catching a ball against the wall for the third out in the third inning with runners in scoring position.
