DERRY — The school district still has openings for parents who want to sign their children up for full-day kindergarten this fall.
As of last count, there were three openings at the Grinnell Elementary School, 10 at Derry Village, and five at the Barka Elementary School, according to Jane Simard, the district’s business director.
The Derry Village and Barka schools each have two full-day kindergarten classes, while the Grinnell, South Range, and East Derry schools have one full-day class each. Each class holds a maximum of 18 students.
Currently, the East Derry and South Range schools are at capacity.
“If there are parents out there who do not want to be on the waiting list for South Range or East Derry this fall, they are welcome to go to the other schools,” said Simard. “I’m sure we will have more students coming than we currently have for the program.”
Parents who do sign up their children for a school that is not their designated school will have to provide their own transportation to those schools.
There is a $250 deposit required to sign up for full-day kindergarten, and the total tuition is $3,500 for the year. The deposit goes toward the final month’s payment, according to Simard.
“Parents can register for all grades for any of our elementary schools at one location over the summer, which is the Grinnell school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.,” said Simard. “Parents can register at their home schools starting August 12.”
