Conservative group to demand Shaheen apologize for missing key Senate meeting

The conservative advocacy group Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire will hold a "visibility rally" outside of Sen. Jeanne Shaheen's office on Main Street in Nashua on Wednesday at 12 noon to protest her missing a U.S. Senate meeting on filibuster reform last Monday, July, 15.

Shaheen said through a spokesman four days later, last Friday, that she was at a campaign fundraiser in New York City but made the Senate leadership aware of it. The spokesman said her views in favor of filibuster reform are well-known.

Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire spokesman Derek Dufresne said Shaheen's "refusal to elaborate throughout last week on why she missed a mandatory meeting on changes that would alter the rule structure of the U.S. Senate was inexcusable. However, the fact that it wasn't until a late Friday afternoon 'news dump' that her office finally admitted to Granite Staters that she was at a New York fundraiser benefiting her re-election is utterly deplorable.

"Jeanne Shaheen owes New Hampshire an apology for putting her own career ahead of her constituents and we will be encouraging her to do so outside of her office (Wednesday) afternoon," Dufresne said.
