Windham man indicted for sexually assaulting 15-year-old girl

MATTHEW HAND

BRENTWOOD – A Windham man has been indicted on charges that he raped a 15-year-old girl in May at a local business, according to prosecutors.

Matthew Hand, 20, of London Bridge Road, is facing charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault and felonious sexual assault.

Hand is scheduled to appear Aug. 1 in Rockingham County Superior Court for arraignment.

Windham police said he forced himself on the girl at a local business, Baked on Pastries, on May 1.

The girl went to the pastry business to pick up a pie, but Hand allegedly brought her into an office, told her he wanted to have sex and rubbed her thighs, police said.

She reported to police that she repeatedly told Hand that she didn’t want to have sex and to stop what he was doing.

Prosecutors said that Hand grabbed the girl by the wrist, pushed her over a sink and forced her to have sex in a bathroom. During an interview with police, Hand denied that he forced himself on the girl, and that she gave him a hug before she left.

Hand, who is free on $10,000 cash bail, told police that the sex was consensual, court papers say.

A judge ordered Hand to have no contact with the victim. Police issued an arrest warrant for Hand in June.

Police said Hand was arrested at Windham High School in June 2012 for criminal threatening. Hand was arrested for allegedly threatening another student. In January, he was charged with disorderly conduct in connection with an argument with a school administrator.Jkimble@newstote.com
