MANCHESTER — The New Hampshire Fisher Cats scored the winning run in unusual fashion Monday night, edging Harrisburg 4-3 in front of 4,139 fans at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Fisher Cats first baseman Gabe Jacobo came up with an unlikely winning hit in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two outs and the game tied, 3-3, Jacobo dropped a single into center field that Brian Goodwin missed on the hop. The ball went all the way to the warning track and Jacobo raced around to third base and then scored when shortstop Jason Martinson’s relay throw to third bounced away.

Fisher Cats reliever Scott Gracey came in to work the top of the ninth, sending the Senators down one-two-three to notch his first save of the year.

The win improved the Fisher Cats to 52-48. Relief pitcher Randy Boone worked three scoreless innings to get the win and move his record to 3-0. The Senators (55-48) and Fisher Cats play again tonight at 7:05.

Brad Glenn led off the bottom of the eighth with a home run to deep left field to tie the game at 3-3. It was Glenn’s 15th of the season and came off reliever Tyler Herron.

Harrisburg scored three runs in the top of the third to open the scoring. Destin Hood led off with a double to center field and former Fisher Cats catcher Brian Jeroloman drew a walk, as did Goodwin to load the bases with no outs.

New Hampshire starter Ryan Tepera got Steven Souza Jr. to line out to second base, but Jimmy VanOstrand snaked a double inside the third base line to plate Hood and Jeroloman. Justin Bloxom grounded out in front of the plate, but Goodwin came in to score to make it 3-0.

Fisher Cats center fielder Adam Loewen hit a towering home run to right field side in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 3-1. Three consecutive singles from Brian Van Kirk, Jon Talley and Loewen (who drove in Van Kirk) made it a 3-2 game after five frames.
