Plaistow area seniors invited to cookout
PLAISTOW — The Vic Geary Senior Center’s board of directors is inviting area seniors to a free cookout sponsored by the Plaistow Lions Club from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23.
The menu will offer hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, potato chips, drinks and ice cream for dessert.
Cashin Center plans informational talks
MANCHESTER — The William B. Cashin Senior Activity Center, 151 Douglas St., has three informational presentations planned next month.• Seniors can learn about the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5. OLLI at Granite State College offers an array of educational and fun classes to learners age 50 and up.
• “Safely Living in the Home You Love” is the topic of a presentation at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, sponsored by New England Emergency Response Systems. Seniors can find out how to keep their independence and give loved ones peace of mind with devices such as the emergency response service, medication reminders and dispensers and telemedicine.
A diabetic shoe clinic for people on Medicare is planned Thursday, Aug. 8, by appointment. Medicare benefits includes a free pair of shoes and inserts every year. To schedule an appointment for a fitting, call Leanne at 828-6762.
Aug. 1 deadline to sign up for talk on Alzheimer’s
BEDFORD — The Arbors of Bedford, 70 Hawthorne Drive, is hosting a talk at noon Tuesday, Aug. 6, by author and Alzheimer’s consultant Joanne Koenig Coste titled “Learning to Speak Alzheimer’s.”
Home Instead, franchisor of the Home Instead Senior Care network, is inviting New Hampshire residents to nominate family caregivers — including themselves — for the opportunity to win a free five-day cruise for the caregiver and a guest.
The Caregiver Cruise is from Feb. 3 to 7 on the Royal Caribbean Enchantment of the Seas. The cruise will set sail from Cape Canaveral, Fla., with stops in CocoCay and Nassau, Bahamas. In addition to the cruise, the winner will receive 40 hours of free care from a Home Instead Senior Care caregiver for the winner’s senior loved one during the cruise.
