Mass. tennis player captures NH Open

Top seed Christian Heaney-Secord of Westwood, Mass., lived up to his billing and won the $8,000 New Hampshire Open Tennis Championships on Sunday at Waterville Valley by defeating unseeded Lucas Da Silveria of San Palo, Brazil, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2.

DaSilveria, a sophomore at Brown University, defeated second seed Nolan Paige of Fairfield, Conn., in the quarterfinals, and then Alex Centenari of Maryland in the semifinals.

Heaney-Secord secured a a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win over Richard Robbie of Harwichport, Mass., in the semifinals.

Secord-Heaney, a junior All-American at Carnegie Melon University, scored a daily double by winning the doubles title, along with Robbie, over Paige and Centenari, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
