The Manchester Mickey Hannigan All-Stars made quick work of Portsmouth in Saturday's Babe Ruth 14-year-old state tournament.

Manchester scored nine times in the first inning and claimed the tournament title with a 15-4 victory at Barrington's Landry Field.

The Hannigan All-Stars added two runs in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth. The game ended after Portsmouth batted in the fifth because of the 10-run rule.

Had Portsmouth won, a second game would have been necessary to determine the tournament champion.

Manchester drew seven walks in the nine-run first inning, and six of the players who walked scored. Portsmouth pitchers issued 10 walks in the game.

Joey Silva, Garrret Olivar, John Robinson, Nate Hall and Drew Merrick each had two hits for Manchester, which had 10 hits in the game. Merrick scored three times, and Hall drove in two.

Patrick Swanson held Portsmouth to one hit and didn't allow a run in three innings. He walked one and struck out one. Matt Reynalds pitched the final two innings.

Manchester went 4-0 in the tournament and allowed six runs in those four games. Manchester beat Portsmouth twice and also collected victories over Barrington and Plymouth.

The victory secured Manchester a spot in the New England Regional, which will begin Friday in Westfield, Mass.

Right fielder Kyle Maurice hit a solo home run and scored twice for Portsmouth, which finished the tournament with a 4-2 record. Shortstop Nathan Rand and pitcher David Ecker scored Portsmouth's other runs.
