Laconia deck collapse injures seven
LACONIA — Seven people were injured Saturday when an improperly installed deck collapsed at a Simpson Avenue home, Fire Lt. Chad Vaillancourt said.
Vaillancourt said injuries ranged from torn ligaments to a severe leg injury as people fell as much as 8 feet. He said the deck was nailed to the 44 Simpson Ave. house with 3-inch nails, when building codes require that decks be bolted to homes.
“The siding on the house was also rotted, which led the deck to let go,” he said.
Vaillancourt said 10 people were on the deck when it collapsed shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday.
Vaillancourt said he didn’t have the name of the homeowner.
