New name for Mass. College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

MANCHESTER — The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences will now be known as MCPHS University, thanks to a legislative amendment to the university’s charter recently signed into law by Gov. Deval Patrick as part of the FY2014 budget bill.

The university’s Manchester campus, established in 2002, is located on Elm Street.

Founded in 1823, MCPHS University is the oldest institution of higher education in Boston and the second-oldest college of pharmacy in the United States.

Since 1979, when the school added health sciences to its offerings, MCPHS University’s programs expanded to include nursing, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, dental hygiene, optometry, pre-med and radiological sciences. It enrolls more than 6,000 students in 32 doctoral, professional and graduate programs and 37 undergraduate programs offered on campuses in Boston, Worcester, Manchester and through MCPHS Online.
