Home runs from Yeral Sanchez and Slade Heathcott allowed Trenton to snap New Hampshire's eight-game winning streak with a 9-2 Eastern League victory Thursday in Trenton, N.J.
The Fisher Cats (49-47) were looking to set a new franchise record with their ninth straight win. But the first homer of the year by Sanchez, a three-run shot off losing and starting pitcher Deck McGuire (5-8) put a dent on that in the first inning.
New Hampshire took a 1-0 first inning lead on an RBI single from Brad Glenn. The Fisher Cats pulled to within a run of Trenton, 3-2, in the fourth inning when Jack Murphy doubled home Nashua native Kevin Nolan.
But against New Hampshire reliever Dustin Antolin in the seventh inning, Trenton padded its lead to 5-2 when Heathcott clocked a two-run homer. It was his fifth homer of the season.
In the home eighth Trenton reached New Hampshire reliever Matt Wright for four runs to blow the game wide open. Wright walked Ramon Flores with the bases loaded, yielded an infield RBI single to Heathcott and a two-run single to Jose Pirela for the 9-2 final.
New Hampshire stranded 12 runners in the game. Trenton (49-48) collected 10 hits, three from Heathcott. Glenn had three hits for the Fisher Cats.
