Rockingham Park hosts return of boxing Friday

Boxing returns to the Granite State Friday at 8 p.m. at Salem's Rockingham Park featuring an ESPN2-televised 10-round main event featuring WBC No. 3-rated junior welterweight Ajose Olusegun (31-1, 14KO's) taking on lightweight "Hammerin'" Hank Lundy (22-3-1, 11 KOs). The televised portion of the card will be aired at 10:30 p.m. on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and WatchESPN.

Today the weigh-in is open to the public and will be held in the Sports Club at Rockingham Park at 4 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to meet their favorite fighters, who will pose for pictures and sign autographs.

"The winner between Olusegun and Lundy emerges as a true contender in the talent-laden 140-pound division, while the loser's career is in deep jeopardy," said Kevin Rooney of DiBella Entertainment, which is promoting the entire card. "Both of these guys know how to box but they can also brawl and go to war, as witnessed in their past fights. You will see a little bit of both, but at the end of the day I see this fight being a war."

On the undercard is another televised bout matching undefeated Ryan Kielczewski (16-0, 3 KO's) of Quincy, Mass. and Miguel "Mikito" Soto (11-0, 11 KO's) in an eight-round super featherweight showdown."This is a very intriguing fight featuring two young, hungry and promising prospects who are looking to make the transition to legitimate contender," said Rooney. Undefeated heavyweight prospect Alexis Santos (9-0, 8 KO's) of Lawrence, Mass., will take on Marlon Hayes of Newark, N.J., (23-11, 11 KO's) in a six rounder. Two other six round heavyweight bouts finds Charles Martin of St. Louis, Mo., (8-0-1, 7KO's) battling Aaron Kinch (5-1-1, KO) and Jonathan Hamm (7-1, 5 KO's) confronting Daniel Martz (8-1, 6 KO's).

Local fighters on the card include Chris Gilbert (8-0, 6 KOs) of Windsor, Vt., challenging Luis Viramontes (3-2-1, 1 KO) of Brockton, Mass., in a six round junior middleweight division fight. Russell Lamour of Portland, Maine, (3-0, 1 KO) enters the ring in a six-round middleweight match-up against Ralph Johnson (0-2) of Worcester, Mass.

Former New England Golden Gloves champion Gerald Schifone of Brockton, Mass., makes his pro debut against veteran Noel Garcia of Springfield, Mass., in a four round junior middleweight division bout.
