Nashua police patrolling waterways in the city

NASHUA — City police on Wednesday issued a warning to local residents, cautioning them to refrain from swimming in unregulated bodies of water throughout the Gate City.
"The increase in temperatures has drawn people to the water to cool off, and a number of unsuspecting people have run into trouble in these waters, some with tragic results," according to a release issued by Capt. Bruce Hansen. "In recent weeks, people of all ages have fallen victim to drowning throughout the state."
Currently, swimming is prohibited at several ponds throughout Nashua, according to the warning. Police will be paying special attention to these areas to ensure citizen safety.
Recent rains have caused water levels and currents to increase in many local streams and rivers, according to police, which could cause unexpected problems.
"Residents are encouraged to swim in city pools or other bodies of water that are monitored by lifeguards, and to watch small children carefully," the release said.
