Cardinals' Chris Carpenter has rehab stint


Righthander Chris Carpenter allowed three runs on six hits in a rehab start on Monday night for Double-A Springfield (Ill.) of the Texas League.

Carpenter, a Trinity of Manchester product, is trying to come back from nerve issues. The former Cy Young Award winner, World Series champ and All-Star threw 54 pitches — 38 for strikes — in 2 2/3 innings of work on Monday against the Arkansas Travelers. He was limited to 60 pitches or fewer. Carpenter walked two and fanned five.He was lifted shortly after allowing a two-run homer.
