Youth Baseball Roundup: Manchester 14s, 15s win in Babe Ruth states
Manchester used a 14-hit attack to rout Plymouth by a 12-0 score in five innings at the Babe Ruth 14-year-old State Tournament Saturday in Barrington.
Manchester was led offesnively by Garet Olivar (two hits, two RBIs), Joey Silva (two hits), Nick Salcito (2-for-2, three runs scored), Johnny Robinson (two hits, two runs) and Drew Merrick (two hits). Pitcher Patrick Swanson threw a one-hitter with seven strikeouts and three walks, working a strong day with catcher Nate Hall.
Manchester plays today at 2 p.m. against Portsmouth.
Babe Ruth 15-year-olds
The Tom Woodlock All-Stars defeated Keene 11-0 in five innings in state tournament play Saturday in Keene.
Grant Corbett went 2-for-3 with a triple, home run and two RBIs to lead the Woodlocks. Jordan Bussierre (2-3, two RBIs) and Danny Schesser (three runs) chipped in as well. Pitchers Danny O'Connor and Cole Anderson combined on a two-hit shutout. The Woodlocks play against the winner of today's Keene/Rochester game (11 a.m.) at 5 p.m in Keene on Monday.
Babe Ruth 13-year-olds
The Manchester Ray Lebel All-Stars defeated Nashua, 4-1, to advance in the winners’ bracket of the Babe Ruth 13-year-old State Tournament Saturday at Rochester.
Ryan Plentzas hurled a complete game two-hitter for the winners and struck out 10.
Declan Knieriem provided the offensive firepower for the winners, driving in two runs with a key sixth-inning single.
Manchester will play Goffstown today at 1 p.m. in Rochester.
Goffstown advanced with a 21-0 five-inning win over host Rochester.
Londonderry 8, Rochester 2: Londonderry's Robbie Del Signore scattered five hits and struck out six over six innings of work on the mound and added four hits at the plate with two doubles and an RBI to lead the way Saturday.
Drew Ellis (double, two RBIs) and Dylan Cole (double, two RBIs) chipped in for Londonderry (6-3). Rochester (9-3) was led by Alex Gray (3-for-5).
Sweeney Post 1-6, Keene 0-0: Sweeney Post impoved to 6-4 with a doubleheader sweep at Keene on Saturday. Vinnie Langella pitched a complete game, three-hitter with seven strikeouts in the first game. Kevin Gonzales went 2-for-3 with the only run scored.
In game two, Sweeney's Zach Beckwith threw six innings, allowing two hits with six strikeouts. Brian Shea closed it out in the seventh. Tyler Burke went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run and Tyler Trottier had a two-run single in the sixth. Sweeney plays at Concord at 5 p.m. on Monday night.
