Lamprey River, Rye to battle for District II LL crown

Lamprey River scored two runs in the fifth inning to break a tie and earn a 4-2 win over Portsmouth in District II Little League semifinal tournament play in Rye Saturday.

In the other semifinal, Rye defeated Somersworth 14-4. Rye and Lamprey River will meet in the final today at 1 p.m. in Rye.

In the bottom of the fifth, Lamprey River scored its runs with two outs, Johnny Cantwell drew a walk and Jacob Rich singled. Andrew Lufkin reached on error that scored Cantwell and Rich to make it 4-2.

Brendan Eaton closed out the game by pitching the sixth, facing the top of the Portsmouth order. Brady Johnson pitched the first five innings.

Johnson hit a double and Cantwell slugged a two-run home run to make it 2-0 Lamprey River in the first inning. Portsmouth's Trevor Allen hit a solo home run in second inning to make it 2-1.

Portsmouth tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth on a walk from Cam Duncan and a one-out double from Anthony Gagliano.
