Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center appoints new chief innovation officer

LEBANON - Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center has appointed Terry Carroll its new chief innovation officer.

Starting in September he will be responsible for all of the information management associated with Dartmouth-Hitchcock's integrated health care delivery system, defining technological support for the strategic direction of Dartmouth-Hitchcock, according to the announcement.

He will also be a part of the medical center's strategic planning, the support of innovation, new business development and management, information design, technology evaluation and acquisition, information integrity and security, use of data, and telecommunications.

"I'm delighted to have Terry join us in this important position," Dartmouth-Hitchcock CEO and President Dr. James N. Weinstein, said in the announcement. "His broad experience in medical informatics, especially in the areas of electronic medical records and how technology relates to and supports accountable care organizations like ours, will be a key to ensuring that we have the data and information to deliver the highest-quality outcomes for our patients."

Weinstein also praised the work of Interim Vice President for Information Systems Martin Purcell and Medical Director for Information Systems Dr. Peter Solberg for the information technology advancements they have overseen at the Medical Center.

"We've come a long way with our information technology infrastructure, especially since the implementation of our new eD-H electronic medical record in 2011. Marty's and Peter's steady hands have helped us move toward creating a sustainable health system. I'm very pleased that they'll continue to be leaders on our team," Weinstein said.

A native New Englander, Carroll was most recently senior vice president, transformation and chief information officer at Fairview Health Services in Princeton, Minn.

Prior to joining Fairview in 2008, he worked for Maverick Healthcare Consulting.

He has also been the chief operating officer of Premier Sourcing Partners; vice president and chief information officer of Detroit Medical Center; and vice president of information services and chief information officer at Baystate Health Systems in Springfield, Mass.

Carroll also served in multiple leadership roles with Magee-Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh early in his career.

He has a bachelor's degree in physics from St. Michael's College in Winooski, Vt., and master's and doctorate degrees in biomedical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
