Nolan leads Fisher Cats past Reading

Nashua native Kevin Nolan collected two hits and two RBIs to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 5-1 Eastern League win against Reading at FirstEnergy Stadium Thursday in Reading, Pa.

New Hampshire (44-46) started fast, getting two runs in the first inning.

Adam Loewen singled to left and, after a one-out walk to A.J. Jimenez, a wild pitch by Reading starter and losing pitcher Jesse Biddle advanced both runners. That set the table for Nolan who plated both runners with a single to center.

Fisher Cats starter and winner Dennis Tepera got off to a shaky start, yielding a first inning solo homer to lead-off hitter Derrick Mitchell, his eighth of the season.

Tepera settled down nicely, lasting six full innings. He allowed three hits, walked four and fanned three on 101 pitches, 57 for strikes.

While he was on the mound, New Hampshire padded its lead to 5-0. The Fisher Cats got a pair in the fourth inning when Brian Van Kirk walked before Gabe Jacobo (three hits) laced his first season homer to left field.

In the fifth inning, Andy Burns doubled and scored New Hampshire's fifth run on a single from Brad Glenn.

Chorye Spoone replaced Ryan Tepera and pitched scoreless ball in the seventh and eighth innings.
