Plaistow lawyer charged with raping teen boy remains free on bail

BRENTWOOD – A Plaistow lawyer accused of raping a 15-year-old boy made his first court appearance this week, and remains free on bail as his case heads to superior court.

Lawrence A. Buswell Jr., 52, was arraigned Monday in 10th Circuit Court in Plaistow on sexual assault charges and for allegedly providing a minor with alcohol sometime between July and August 2011.

Buswell allegedly gave the boy two shots of Smirnoff Sour Apple Vodka then took him on out his boat on Country Pond in Kingston.

The rape occurred while the boat was stationed off a cove on the east side of an island, according to court documents.

No pleas were entered on the felony charges. The case is expected to be bound over to Rockingham County Superior Court for possible indictment.

Buswell remains free on $50,000 personal recognizance bail following Monday’s hearing.

A judge ordered the long-time lawyer to have no contact with any person under 16 years of age, including the teenage boy he allegedly assaulted. Buswell also signed a waiver of extradition.

Kingston police arrested Buswell, of 11 Lions Way, on May 6 after spending months calling him and leaving a certified letter seeking his statement.

Police learned about the alleged assault last Aug. 10 when the boy’s father contacted Kingston police.

The boy and his family had been camping at Country Shores Campground for the last 11 years.

Buswell is the owner’s son, police said.

The boy told police that he went with Buswell out on his boat for a swim.

“When he got out of the water wearing just his boxer shorts, (Buswell) wrapped him in a towel, sat him on the middle console of the boat, grabbed his crotch and squeezed,” according to court records.

The boy said that he moved Buswell’s hand away. Buswell then slid his hand under the boy’s boxers and touched him, police said.

Buswell then pulled his pants down and forced the boy to perform two sexual acts, according to a police affidavit by Kingston police Detective Christopher LeBrecque.

Buswell faces two counts of felonious sexual assault, three counts of misdemeanor sexual assault and a single count of prohibited sales.

He is due back in court July 18 for a probable cause hearing. He has the option to waive that hearing, which would require prosecutors to call witnesses to testify about evidence leading to the arrest.

Buswell was also involved in a deadly boating accident on Country Pond last May. He was piloting a 20-foot power boat when it collided with a 17-foot powerboat. Eric Eskeland, 54, of Merrimack, was operating the other boat and died at the scene. The status of the investigation in that case is currently not known.
