West beats East in Eastern League All-Star Classic

Javier Herrera of the Richmond Flying Squirrels had a three-run homer to lead the West All-Stars past the East All-Stars 5-0 in the annual Eastern League All-Star Baseball Classic Wednesday at New Britain Stadium.

Herrera’s first inning homer was off Portland starter Anthony Ranaudo, who walked the first two batters of the game.

New Hampshire All-Stars Kevin Nolan of Nashua and Brad Glenn each were 0-for-2 in the game. Fisher Cats’ pitcher Marcus Walden threw one scoreless inning and struck out one batter.

Portland’s Michael Almanzar had one of East’s five hits and catcher Christian Vazquez went 0-for-2.
