Portsmouth driver allegedly cuts off bus in So. Berwick, Maine; more than 25 from Northwood camp suffer injuries

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — More than 25 teens and counselors from a Northwood, N.H., camp suffered bumps, bruises and other minor injuries when the bus they were riding in collided with a car in South Berwick on Tuesday.

Timothy Hagan of Portsmouth, N.H., allegedly cut off the school bus when he pulled out of Quarry Drive onto Route 236, police said. An northbound 2006 Freight Liner bus broadsided Hagan’s 2001 Red Mercury.
The First Student Inc. school bus being driven by Ron Caouette of Dover, N.H., was returning to Camp Yavneh in Northwood. The 23 teens and four counselors on board suffered minor injuries. None went to the hospital.
Hagan went by ambulance to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with complaints of abdominal and chest pain, Police Chief Dana P. Lajoie said. His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Police said Hagan failed to yield to oncoming traffic. They continue to investigate and say charges are possible.
