Ex-Newmarket firefighter wanted for Lee arson added to state's most wanted list

LEE – A local man sought for allegedly setting two fires at a Belle Lane home July 1 has been added to the list of the state's most wanted fugitives.

Donald Dubbs, 58, of 23 Belle Lane, is wanted on two counts of arson after he allegedly attempted to burn a rental home and set the adjacent garage ablaze.

While the exterior of the home was charred before the second alarm fire went out, the garage and its contents – including a lawn mower and snow blower - were destroyed. The fire also damaged a car on the property.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Jeffrey White said local, state and federal authorities have been actively looking for Dubbs since warrants were issued for his arrest earlier this month. Investigators have been talking to family, friends and coworkers of Dubbs, but have not been able to locate him.

"We're using him as the fugitive of the week," White said.

Dubbs has brown hair, blue eyes and is five-foot, nine-inches tall. As of earlier this month, he could be driving a black 1999 Ford Escort with a Guinness sticker on the back window and New Hampshire license plate of 345-1264, according to police.

White said Dubbs is still considered dangerous, anyone spotting him or with information should contact the U.S. Marshal's Office at (603) 225-1632 or call local police.

Dubbs served as a volunteer firefighter in Newmarket for 22 years from 1978 to 2000, according to town administrator Steve Fornier.

Fornier said there is no indication Dubbs ever had any disciplinary issues during his service to the town. Dubbs no longer appears to have any ties to the department.
