Laconia man arrested after altercation
LACONIA -- A man involved in a disturbance and altercation near Church and North Main streets was arrested after allegedly running from a police officer, then flashing a knife at a pursuing officer.
Police said officers responded to the disturbance, which they said was between the suspect, Joseph Coughlin, and two or three other men.
After being placed under arrest, Coughlin was found to be in possesssion of three unloaded handguns, marijuana, a prescription drug and drug paraphernalia, police said.
Coughlin allegedly displayed a knife during the original altercation as well.
He is facing three counts of criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, three counts of violating a protective order by possessing a firearm, resisting arrest and assorted drug charges.
Coughlin declined a bail commissioner and was held for arraignment in Laconia District Court on Wednesday morning.
