Dereck Treadwell of Topsham, Maine, was the winner of the Newton's Revenge bicycle hillclimb up the Mount Washington Auto Road in Pinkham Notch Saturday.

Lea Davison (30) of Jericho, Vt., was the top finisher in the women's division. Her time of 1:05:54 was good enough to place her seventh overall.

The 38-year-old Treadwell edged out fellow Mainer Eric Follen (38, Sanford, Maine) by finishing in 58:14, just four seconds better than Follen.

Two more 38-year-olds, Timothy Ahearn of Woodstock, Conn., and Timothy Tapply of Shernorn, Mass., finished third and fourth respectively. Ahearn finished in 59:06 and Tapply in 1:01:56. Chris Yura (34, Bryn Mawr, Pa.) rounded out the top five with a time of 1:02:34.

The top finisher from New Hampshire was 49-year-old William Dunkerley of Newton, who placed 24th in 1:15:29.

The Newton's Revenge event began in 2006 when the Mount Washington Hillclimb (scheduled for Aug. 17 this year) became so popular that a second race was needed to accommodate the interested racers.

The course is 7.6-mile long and takes riders up to the 6,288-foot summit. On Saturday, 171 registered entrants finished, including one tandem bike team: Fabio and Simonetta Piergentili of Andover, Mass., who finished 97th in 1:36:32.

Neither of last year's winners, Cameron Cogburn (Cambridge, Mass.) nor Marti Shea (Manchester Memorial grad and Marblehead, Mass., resident), competed on Saturday.

The course records also remained intact. The men's mark is 49:24, set by Tom Danielson of Connecticut in 2002. The women's record is 58:14 and belongs to France's Jeannie Longo (2000).

Kristen Gohr of Reading, Mass. ,was the second-best women's finisher, taking 18th overall. The 42-year-old finished in 1:11:18. Stefanie Sydlik (27) of Cambridge, Mass., had the third-best women's time at 1:18:21 for 35th overall.

Also of note, 14-year-old Jonah Thompson of Albuquerque, N.M., finished 23rd with a time of 1:15:25.

Wolfeboro's Brad Deshaies (also 14) shared the nod for youngest competitor with Thompson. Deshaies finished 82nd in 1:31:12.

The oldest competitor was 76-year-old Richard Devellian of Jackson, who finished 158th in 2:14:22.
