Salem's Doyle sent from PawSox to Sea Dogs

July 05. 2013 8:44PM

Salem native Terry Doyle, a right-handed pitcher in the Boston Red Sox organization, has been sent to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs from the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox.

Doyle’s move to Portland makes way for left-handed pitcher Drake Britton to make the jump up to Pawtucket.

Doyle made 18 appearances (11 starts) with Pawtucket this season. The 2004 Salem High School graduate was 5-6 with a 5.60 ERA with the PawSox. He signed as a minor league free agent last year after being released by the White Sox during the 2012 season.

The Boston College graduate was 6-3 with a 2.83 ERA with Charlotte, Chicago’s Triple-A affiliate, a year ago.

The Sea Dogs will face the Fisher Cats in New Hampshire for a three-game series July 15-17.

Britton (Waco, Texas), was 7-6 with a 3.51 ERA in 17 appearances (16 stars) with the Sea Dogs this season.

The 24-year-old was selected to the Eastern League All-Star Game and has recorded 80 strikeouts in 97 1/3 innings pitched in Portland.

Britton was a 23rd round selection by the Red Sox in the 2007 draft.
