Windham selectmen reject 2 bids for skate park equipment

WINDHAM — Though bids for the town’s obsolete skate park equipment closed on Monday afternoon, the town still hasn’t found a suitable buyer.

During Monday’s meeting of the board of selectmen, members unanimously rejected two bids — one from Merrimack resident John Gallagher and another from the town of Salem.

.
Gallagher offered $850 for the site’s unused ramp sheets, while the Salem Recreation Department expressed interest in purchasing three of the site’s 11 skateboard ramps, along with the plywood sheets and two grinding bars, for $4,100.
..
The board is holding out for a buyer interested in purchasing the entire package.

The most recent bidding period marked the second round in the process of trying to sell the equipment, which is currently sitting unused in the shuttered Griffin Park skateboarding area. This past spring’s round of bids yielded equally disappointing results.
..
Town Administrator David Sullivan told selectmen they could either accept one of the more recent bids and then try to sell off the remaining equipment, or list the entire package on GovernmentDeals.com, an online auction site geared specifically toward municipalities.
..
The board voted unanimously to try selling the skate park equipment online.

The skate park was closed this past September after police received constant complaints about safety violations, vandalism, foul language and other inappropriate behavior.8aguilmet@newstote.com
