Manchester traffic stop nets another drug charge for passenger

MANCHESTER — A traffic stop Tuesday night resulted in a narcotic possession charge for one of the passengers, who is under indictment for drug sales.

Police said an officer on patrol in the area of Young Street saw a vehicle traveling south on Hall Street at what appeared to be a high rate of speed.

Officer Derek Cataldo got his cruiser behind the vehicle and pulled it over in the area of 275 Cilley Road. Cataldo said the driver and three passengers appeared nervous and he asked the driver, Nathan Lapage, 29, of 712 Montgomery St., to step out of the vehicle.

Cataldo said Lapage gave permission for the vehicle to be searched. A female passenger, Tara Zebrowski. 26, of 87 Harrison St., gave Cataldo permission to search her pink pocketbook on the floor by her seat.

In it, police said, were five hypodermic needles, four of them empty and the fifth containing a brown liquid suspected to be heroin.

Zebrowski was charged with felony possession of a narcotic and scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division.

Lapage was charged with operating a motor vehicle after suspension and released on $300 personal recognizance bail.
Zebrowski could enter no plea to the felony drug charge in Circuit Court Wednesday morning, so a probable cause hearing was set for July 15.

Police prosecutor Richard Brown sought to maintain the $2,000 cash/surety bail set for Zebrowski, saying some amount of cash bail is appropriate.

Brown said Zebrowski has been indicted by a Hillsborough County Grand Jury on four counts of sale of a narcotic from last fall and has waived a probable cause hearing on two more drug charges.

This arrest is an indication, he said: "(Zebrowski) didn't get the message about the dangerousness of drugs."
