Marino's dramatic HR lifts Londonderry Post



Austin Marino blasted a two-out, three-run homer in the ninth inning to power Londonderry Post 27 to a 4-2 American Legion victory over Salem Tuesday at Salem High. Robbie Delsignor and Keith Simpson combined on a four-hitter for Londonderry, 3-1 in district play.

Down 2-1 with two outs in the ninth inning, Zack Byers singled and Ryan Moloney walked to set the table for Marino, who launched a 1-0 delivery to right center for the winning hit. Simpson closed the game in the ninth for the win.

Londonderry scored a first-inning run on a single by Moloney (three hits), plating Zach Tavano. Delsignor pitched the first five innings, allowing three hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Simpson scattered one hit over the last four innings, allowing one walk with two whiffs. Delsignor had two hits on offense.

Salem starter Dan Peters allowed one run on six hits in seven innings. He fanned five and walked no one.

Cam Toohey collected two hits and two RBIs for Salem.

Derry 12, Portsmouth 5: Derry Post’s Chris Gerossie was a one-man wrecking crew in his team’s 12-5 win over host Portsmouth’s Booma Post on Tuesday night.

Gerossie went seven innings, allowing two runs ans four hits while striking out six.

But that’s only the half of it.

Gerosssie went 3-for-3 at the plate and reached base six times. He scored four runs and drove in two more.

Grant Wagner went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Derry (7-1 District B) while Riley Cahill went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

For Booma, Evan Pugliese Connor McCauley each had a double. Portsmouth (0-6 District B) amassed only five hits total.
