MANCHESTER — One Internet website tracking gas prices relies on motorists to feed it with updated prices.
Their collective verdict? A dime a gallon more than a year ago for regular unleaded in New Hampshire.
"We're probably getting tens of thousands of updates in New Hampshire today," said Patrick DeHaan, a senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com, which includes NewHampshireGasPrices.com.
"It's really crowd-sourcing for gas prices if you will," DeHaan said by phone from his Chicago office Tuesday.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Budget Gas and Garage on Manchester's Boynton Street was listed on the New Hampshire site with the cheapest gas in the state — except for a Sam's Club in Concord at a penny cheaper.
"A lot of people use that as their basis for where they're going to stop," manager Rhonda Robinson said. "It's pretty well-known."
NewHampshireGasPrices.com said the West Side station offered gas for $3.30 a gallon, cash.
Robinson confirmed the $3.30 cash price, $3.35 for those using a credit card.
"There's still a profit to be made," she said, admitting she refers to the website. "We check it on a daily basis."
On Tuesday, GasBuddy.com listed the average price for regular unleaded in New Hampshire at $3.448 compared to $3.349 a year earlier, a hike of 9.9 cents.
New Hampshire's average price Tuesday was 4.6 cents cheaper than the nationwide average.
