Mother charged after leaving children in yard

LONDONDERRY — A Londonderry mother was arrested Monday evening after allegedly leaving her two children alone in the front yard for nearly an hour.

On June 6, police were summoned to the Fieldstone Drive home of Julie Ann Keiran, 35, after receiving an anonymous call from a neighbor who said they’d witnessed Keiran driving off while her two young children were outside playing in the yard.

Londonderry police Lt. Ryan Kearney said the two children, a 10-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy, were believed to have been left alone in their yard from around 8:30 p.m. until almost 9:30 p.m.

“Upon our arrival there were two children just playing outside and it was getting dark. There was clearly no adult supervision, but we started looking around for the parents,” Kearney said.

Keiran returned home shortly after to answer to several Londonderry police officers and an investigation into the situation soon followed.

She was arrested on warrant after turning herself in to police just before 7:30 p.m. Monday evening.

Keiran, who faces two charges of endangering the welfare of a child, was released on $4,000 personal recognizance bail. She will be arraigned in the Derry District Court on July 15 at 8:15 a.m.
