Dead deer causes chain-reaction crash in Goffstown

A dead deer in the middle of South Mast Street caused a chain-reaction crash Friday night, sending one vehicle into an office building and another into a utility pole.

Sgt. Chris Weeks said the accident happened around 9:45 p.m., after a driver came upon the dead animal and pulled over to try to alert other drivers to the danger.

One driver stopped to avoid the animal and a van crashed into the rear of her car, Weeks said, "causing the woman's vehicle to careen off the roadway into a house."

"Then the vehicle that hit the first vehicle went off the road and struck a pole," he said.

The utility pole snapped and that closed down South Mast Street until about 6:30 the next morning while crews replaced the pole, Weeks said.

Carol Durham, 47, of Hooksett, was driving the car that hit the building at 40 South Mast Street, which houses Goffstown Dental Associates. She was taken by ambulance to Catholic Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Weeks said.

The driver whose van struck the pole, Christopher Leger of Goffstown, 46, did not need medical treatment, he said.
