Several traffic accidents occur within hours

Bedford police and fire departments are seeing an increase in traffic accidents, especially along heavily traveled roads. On Friday, June 21, police and fire/rescue responded to several accidents, all within a few miles of each other.

“Last Friday, we had three motor vehicle accidents back to back to back,” said Bedford Fire Deputy Chief Mark Klose.
On South River Road at Rite Aid, fire and rescue responded to a car accident that sent one patient to Catholic Medical Center.

The second accident involved two cars at Liberty Hill and County roads, where both vehicles had major damage. An adult female and one of the two young children in the car were transported to CMC. Two teenage males were in the other vehicle, with no injuries.

The third accident involved a car and a landscape truck with a trailer at Route 101 and Nashua Road. BFD personnel smelled gas and found an overturned gas container in the trailer. No injuries were reported.

“The areas where most accidents occur are on Route 101 and South River Road,” said police Lt. Michael Bernard. “On an average, we get 25,000 vehicles a day on Route 101, and about 20,000 a day on South River Road.”

At about 12:47 p.m. on June 21, Bedford police responded to a two-car accident at the intersection of South River Road and Colby Court. A 2005 Dodge van driven by John Defren of Manchester and a 2010 Subaru driven by Vernon Breen of South Burlington, Vt. No injuries were reported.

Another accident occurred at 1:23 p.m. at the intersection of County Road and Liberty Hill Road. Police investigated a two-car accident involving a 2012 Mazda 3 driven by Jacquelyn Huppi of Merrimack. The second vehicle was a 2005 GMC Sierra operated by a juvenile. No injuries were reported.

Police also responded to an accident at 2:22 p.m., at the intersection of Route 101 and Nashua Road involving a 2008 Acura TL driven by Erwin Guenauer of Fitchburg, Mass. The second vehicle was a 2008 Ford F-350 operated by Benjamin Calvin of Nashua. There were no reported injuries.
