A classic story gets a modern-day upgrade in a Peterborough Players' Second Company production of Marjorie Sokoloff's “Snow White.” Representing new or retooled characters are, from left, The Beautiful Dancing Chicken (Joshua Kyle Hoppe), Snow White (Talene Monahon) and Doofy (Richard Sabatucci).

PETERBOROUGH — The classic tale of Snow White, in a contemporary reworking that features a very sassy mirror, a dancing chicken and a not-so-much-evil-but-misunderstood witch, takes center stage this summer at The Peterborough Players.
The Players' Second Company of interns and apprentices unveils the production at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Hadley Road theater.

Adapted by Marjorie Sokoloff from the beloved children's tale, “Snow White” will include nine more performances on July 5-6, 12-13, 17, 19, 20 and 26-27.
Tickets are $8 for children and $10 for adults. For details, call 924-7585 or log onto PeterboroughPlayers.org.

In Sokoloff's tale, there isn't an evil, spiteful witch, and the picture-perfect princess of the original tale is first glimpsed as a frightened, young woman who finds herself alone.
Still, there is a prince and a happy ending.
