Wolfeboro police, fire ready for meet-and-greet
WOLFEBORO — Want to see the inside of a jail cell — without getting arrested? Members of the public are invited to the first-ever open house with tours at the Wolfeboro Police and Fire-Rescue Department building this Saturday.
Police Chief Stuart Chase said the Wolfeboro Police Commissioners — Chair Ron Goodgame, Vice Chair Robert Copeland and Commissioner Joseph Balboni, Jr. — are planning and funding the community outreach event.
The open house will be held at the Public Safety Building, 251 South Main St., on Saturday, June 29, between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments will be available. Ossipee resident Mike Hashem and his band, the Dixieland Strollers, will perform at the open house. The Dixieland Strollers have been performing together for nearly 40 years and are a long-established band in New Hampshire. Their casual, acoustic styling ranges from jazz, to polka, to traditional Dixieland tunes. The open house is free to the public and all are encouraged to attend.
“We want to show the public our new equipment and our new police cars. This gives us an opportunity to interact with those we serve,” said Chase. “The open house offers us a chance to have some one on one time with the public,” he added.
Goodgame said he hoped the open house would attract youngsters aged 12 and under who may want to check out police cruisers or fire rescue equipment and interact with personnel.
“We think community outreach is a good thing,” said Goodgame, “and we haven’t had an open house with the police and fire departments — ever.”
Additionally, there will be free giveaways and safety items from New Hampshire Highway Safety Agency. Additionally, to those who need them, free gun locks will also be available courtesy of the Wolfeboro Police Department, the local FBI field office, and the U.S. Department of Justice.
