Old Home Week, 4th fireworks, are on in Ossipee

OSSIPEE — Volunteers came to the rescue of the Ossipee Old Home Week committee last month, just in time to save the week-long celebration and its annual Independence Day fireworks extravaganza.

Former Old Home Week Committee Co-Chair Kathleen Maloney said volunteers stepped up to the plate after she and members of the select board got the word out they needed help in the planning and execution of the town's largest public event of the year.

"We had new members step up — we're up to 10 members now and the fireworks are on for July 4 at Constitution Park," she said on Monday.

She said the new co-chairs of Old Home Week are local residents Jim Fitzpatrick and Shawn Foss.

Old Home Week kicks off this Saturday, June 29, with a fishing derby from 8 a.m. to noon at Mill Pond, a book, plant and bake sale at the Ossipee Public Library, a turkey dinner at Ossipee Concerned Citizens and a variety show at 7 p.m. at the Ossipee Central School.

Entertainment continues on Sunday with a touch-a-truck event from 2 to 4 p.m., a performance at 6 p.m. by the Swift River Jazz Band, an afternoon art show at Town Hall, and a blueberry pancake breakfast to start off the day at St. Joseph's Church.

The highlight of the week is the annual Old Home Week Independence Day Parade at 10 a.m. starting at Dorrs Corner and Moultonville Road, a Family Fun Fair in the afternoon at Ossipee Concerned Citizens on Dorr Street with games and a flea market, followed by the Food, Music and Fireworks Festival at Constitution Park from 5 to 10:30 p.m. The rain date is Friday, July 5.

For a complete schedule, pick up the schedule at town hall or visit www.ossipeerec.org, for a link to the schedule of events from July 1 to July 10.
