Victorino's 4 hits, 5 RBIs lead Red Sox over Tigers

Shane Victorino homered among his four hits and had a career high-tying five RBIs as the Boston Red Sox beat the host Detroit Tigers, 10-6, to even the four-game series at one game apiece.

Jacoby Ellsbury had a pair of hits and two RBIs, and Stephen Drew and Jose Iglesias each had three hits and combined to score five runs as the Red Sox halted a five-game losing streak at Comerica Park. Jon Lester (7-4) labored through 5 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on nine hits, to win for the first time since May 15.

Miguel Cabrera went 4-for-4 with a three-run homer and Andy Dirks added a solo blast for Detroit, which had its lead atop the AL Central cut to three games over Cleveland.

Tigers starter Doug Fister (6-5) was pounded for six runs on 11 hits in 3 1/3 innings.

The Red Sox knocked Fister from the game with six consecutive one-out hits in a four-run fourth, including a two-run double by Ellsbury and two-RBI single from Victorino for a 6-1 lead.

The Tigers answered in the fifth, getting a solo homer from Dirks and a three-run shot from Cabrera — his 10th hit in 16 career at-bats against Lester — to cut the deficit to 6-5.

Boston pulled away on Victorino's RBI single in the sixth before tacking on two runs in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Victorino and bases-loaded wild pitch by Al Alburquerque, who was recalled from Triple-A Toledo earlier Friday.GAME NOTEBOOK: Cabrera had his fifth four-hit game of the season while extending his hitting streak to seven games and boosting his major league-leading RBI total to 74 in 72 games. He also reached 20 homers for the seventh straight season with Detroit. ... Both teams made moves involving their closers. The Red Sox elevated Koji Uehara into the role in place of Andrew Bailey, who blew in fourth save chance in Thursday's series opener, while the Tigers designated closer Jose Valverde for assignment. ... Boston C David Ross was diagnosed with a concussion — his second of the season — and has been shut down from all baseball activities until he is re-evaluated in early July.
